Beavers Summer Camp 2019

Beavers Summer Camp 2019

The Beavers had their summer camp last weekend.  This year the theme chosen by the group was “Under The Sea” and where possible the activities were based around this.  After the Beavers arrived they had the camp safety talk before entering camp through the very impressive underwater doorway created for us by Cheryl (Billy’s Mum).  We must say a huge thank you for that as it looked amazing.

The first task of the day was allocating tents.  The Beavers then got busy unpacking their kit by which time, they were ready for lunch.  When lunch had been eaten and cleared away, it was time to get on with the afternoon’s activities. The Beavers were split into two groups and took part in two different activities.  One was learning fire lighting skills.  While the other activity was making an ocean in a bottle and a floating egg experiment which demonstrated how the salt in the sea makes things float.

There were then four new activities for them all to try.  These were, making an aquarium in a jar, fish weaving, clay sea animals and sea puppets.  The Beavers had fun taking part in them all before packing up and going on a hike.  The hike took us to Charlton Lakes where they had a great time playing in the park before heading back to camp.  Dinner was all ready and waiting for us when we got back as Rebecca (Andrew’s Mum) had very kindly cooked it for us while we are out.  A very big thank you for that as everyone was hungry by then and enjoyed it very much.

The Beavers then had some free time before gathering around the camp fire.  The Beavers had hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows before singing what must now be described as our anthem, the Meatball song! This was followed by some junk modelling and loom bands before taking part in the teddy bear parade, story and bed.

In the morning all the Beavers were very busy packing up their kit and cleaning out their tents.  The team work while doing this was very impressive and they all helped each other to get this done before breakfast. After breakfast they got to play some parachute games before we all gathered in a circle and shared the things we enjoyed most on camp. There were lots of badges to be given out and then Ollie was invested into the colony. A huge welcome to him from us all.

A very big thank you to Steve (Hawkeye), Nikki, Matt, Ben (Chill) for all their help on the day/night.  Finally, a very special thank you to Charlie (Rowan) who works so hard to make the 12th Andover (West) Beaver group “the best”. She does it amazingly well.
