Throughout the month of June the 12th Andover (West) Cub Scouts have certainly been getting the ‘out’ from Scouts! In the first week of the month the Cubs began by learning about basic 4 & 6 figure grid references and OSM map symbols in preparation for a hike. The unseasonably rainy weather did not stop them from completing their hike the week after, starting from Appleshaw village church and finishing back at the Scout hut, the route consisted of many muddy wet fields, woods and country lanes.
The following week they visited Danebury Hill Fort to celebrate the Summer solstice. The Cubs swiftly hiked from the bottom car park up and over onto the hill fort where they created a piece of ‘land art’ in the shape of the sun made from sticks, leaves and other natural objects. The Cubs then followed their flag hiking around the perimeter of the Iron Age Hill Fort before completing the evening with three new investitures.
