Whilst attending the ‘Ham Jam’ 110-year Cub Scout Jamboree, the Cub Scout leader used a series of vintage Kodak Box Brownie 2 Model F cameras to document some of the event. The cameras were manufactured between 1924 and 1930 and were loaded with black and white film that expired in 2004; the films were later processed in chemistry that was also aged. After processing, the negatives were then scanned at high resolution and can be seen in their unrefined form.
The cameras provided an interesting topic of conversation, with genuine intrigue by both Cubs and adults alike, with the most common question from the youngsters being “how do you see the picture, where is the screen?”
The images will be shared with the Hampshire Scout Heritage Centre based at Ferny Crofts in the New Forest, to add to their extensive archive of scouting.
