British Gas, like many companies, allow their staff to have 1 day per year away from normal work so they can help a charity and thanks to Stuart (from Scouts) who works there, this year we had 30 or so people helping us over 2 days (15 each day). We had plenty for them to help with as you can see from the photos and although it was pretty hot on both days, bacon sandwiches for breakfast, lots of cold drinks and a BBQ each lunch time seemed to inspire everyone to work hard and do a great job.

Together we:

  1. Replaced the old wooden rear wall of the concrete shed at the back of the hut with a new block wall.
  2. Clad the far end wall of the hut just as we have already done on 2 other walls meaning there’s just 1 wall to go.
  3. Created a wider cement path at the front of the hut to make access easier and hopefully stop the area by the ramp getting muddy in wet weather.
  4. Built the brick plinths for the seats that we are putting into the area next to the outside kitchen so we can have events round a camp fire in future.

And  we also got them to complete a lot of smaller tasks that have been waiting for a while. All in all it was a really successful couple of days and we are very thankful to British Gas for allowing some of their staff to help us like this and to Stuart for organising it all.
