The Cubs spent a Thursday evening in May completing their Photography activity badge. The equipment was lent to the group by the Photography department at The Sixth Form College Farnborough; each Cub used a Digital SLR camera with a 50mm lens in order to capture images using subject matter around the scout hut.
The Cubs were introduced to the basics of composition and arrangement alongside the basic functions of the cameras. They enjoyed exploring their surroundings, attempting to complete their ‘visual shopping list’ of the ‘formal and visual elements’, capturing photographs containing ingredients such as reflection, symmetry, line, shape, contrast, detail, framing and dynamic angles of view.
Once the images were uploaded, each Cub had an image printed in order to hold a photographic exhibition at the scout hut the following week, with parents who were invited to see their fantastic work.
